To meet its objective of addressing complex challenges to break through the cycles of urban poverty by creating solutions that are both innovative and results-oriented, the foundation awards three types of grants: planning, seed funding for start-ups and demonstration programs and capital projects.

The Foundation selects projects to be awarded grants based on following criteria including:

a well articulated mission;
demonstration of need and clearly defined goals and objectives;
potential for project to take innovative approaches to solving problems;
ability to provide measurable results through an evaluation process;
capacity to advance knowledge base in field;
enhancement of opportunities for beneficiaries to improve their quality of life;
delivery of increased efficient and effective services;
internal capacity to achieve expected goals; and
evidence of strong financial stability and ability to leverage other sources of funding.

The Foundation regrets that its resources are limited and that it will not be able to support all worthy proposals.

Once the grant has been award, the Foundation reserves the right to monitor the progress of the project during the grant period and to withhold payments of the grant should the grantee not comply with or fall short of the specified goals and objectives as set forth in the grant request. Typically, the Foundation does not release a press announcement on each grant. However, if the recipient wishes to issue its own announcement, the Foundation requests that the recipient review any material with the Foundation prior to distribution.
